I do not know of any cordless phones that the base unit does not need power. They are not like regular phones but need power to send the signal to the wireless handset.

Cordless phones have a chargeable battery in them;
Even if there is a power cut, the battery will allow you to use the phone for a while.

I hope this story was written, when cargeable batteries were not invented.

Still, I like this story.
